Looking into taking courses online?

- PEN number is required for self-registration (available on your report card)
- After registration, you'll be given a startup assignment. This needs to be completed before you are officially registered in the course
- You can start the course anytime during the year (including over holidays and breaks)
- Entire course is self-paced and self-taught but midterms and final exams need to be written in person at John Oliver Secondary School
- A student cannot register for an online course while being registered in the same course at school
- You have 365 days from time of registration to finish the course
- If your online course is a pre-requisite course, the final mark needs to be completed by the last week of August in order to sign up for the next level by September at Churchill. (e.g. Chem 11 to Chem 12). However, if your course is not a pre-requisite course, then you have 365 days
- Attention Grade 12s: In order for a course to be considered for university admission, the final mark must be ready by January 31 of your grade 12 year
- Do not wait until the last day to submit all your assignments. Give your online teacher at least two weeks to mark everything and upload your mark.
- To drop an online course, simply email your online teacher. If your online teacher doesn't respond in a timely manner, please email or call VLN directly. Dropped online courses do not appear on the official transcript
- Please note that your online school operates as a separate entity from the main school. Therefore, any problems with your online courses or questions about the online curriculum should be directed towards your online teacher or by calling the number under "contact us" on the VLN website
